Gainsborough Lodge returns to a ‘happy hunting ground’
The Gainsborough Lodge sales team returned to a ‘happy hunting ground’ earlier this week after making the long haul down from the Darling Downs to the Riverside Stables of Inglis Bloodstock in preparation for the 2019 Sydney Classic Yearling Sale.
Recent renewals of the auction have witnessed Gainsborough Lodge realise the majority of their objectives, selling stock for as much as $110,000 at last year’s assembly when the new Riverside Stables complex first opened its doors for business.
In three visits to the Sydney Classic Yearling Sale since re-positioning themselves in the domestic bloodstock marketplace, Gainsborough Lodge has steadily grown its clientele, selling horses to racing concerns based in virtually every State of Australia as well as to a select number of outfits based overseas.
This year’s Classic Yearling Sale draft is very much in keeping with the standard they have set in recent years. The consignment of eight Lots — consisting of five colts and three fillies — is representative of some of the more exciting young thoroughbred stallions in the country, seven lots qualify for the very successful BOBS scheme and one lot under QTIS.
Stallions with first-crop yearlings in their Inglis Classic draft comprise Headwater, Press Statement and Outreach. All three were highly precocious 2-year-olds in their own right, Press Statement actually winning one of the most significant juvenile events on the racing calendar in the form of the Group 1 BRC JJ Atkins Stakes during the Queensland Winter Carnival.
Each a son of a tremendously successful stallions, Headwater, Press Statement and Outreach are very likely candidates to make an instant impression with their first 2-year-old runners in 2019/2020 and Gainsborough Lodge’s contingent have been given just as much chance as any other members of the same breeds found in the catalogue.
Established stallions Holy Roman Emperor (IRE), Nicconi and Smart Missile are also represented in the Gainsborough Lodge draft. All three sires have made their mark in all forms of company at home and overseas, and are each responsible for quality members of our 2019 Inglis Classic draft.
Last but not least, sophomore sires Dissident and Wandjina make up our selection of stallions this week at a time when their first crop 2-year-olds are just beginning to figure in juvenile company around the country.
The Gainsborough Lodge draft can be inspected at the Riverside Stables of Inglis Bloodstock this week in Barn G.
